Gregory L. Poe

Greg Poe is a trial and appellate lawyer whose practice focuses on complex white collar criminal matters. Greg has tried sixteen federal cases on behalf of criminal defendants. Twelve of those trials resulted in either acquittals or hung juries; two resulted in partial acquittals. Among other recent matters, Greg was lead counsel for the lead defendant in a high profile public corruption case that was tried before a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (United States v. Livingston, et al., No. 1:15-cr-00201-LO (E.D. Va.). The jury acquitted Greg’s client on all eight counts in which he was charged. Greg also has presented oral argument in numerous criminal cases in the federal courts of appeals across the country. In addition to his trial and appellate work, Greg has persuaded federal district judges to vacate criminal convictions in post-trial litigation, and he handles especially complicated federal sentencing proceedings.

Some of Greg’s recent clients have included the former CEO and co-founder of a leading publicly traded data protection company; the CEO of an Asian subsidiary of a Fortune 50 company; the CEO of a defense contractor; the CEO of a multinational manufacturer; the former chief financial officer of a large federal government agency; the former chief operating officer of a multinational manufacturer; and lawyers. Many of Greg's most difficult and complex cases have been resolved favorably without incident, publicity, or reputational damage to his clients. He has represented individual targets, witnesses, and companies in grand jury investigations and related enforcement proceedings (sometimes involving classified information); managed and resolved parallel criminal and civil investigations; represented individuals in investigations by Congress and federal inspectors general; and represented both individuals and companies in internal investigations requiring a high degree of discretion. Along with his criminal practice, Greg has handled a broad range of civil matters at all stages of litigation. In that realm, he has represented publicly traded and privately held companies; labor unions; nonprofit corporations; trade associations; and individuals. Greg has handled cases requiring a Top Secret/SCI level security clearance.

Greg was a partner in two prominent Washington, D.C. law firms before opening the firm in 2009. Early in his legal career, Greg spent a year as deputy general counsel of a large nonprofit corporation in Washington, D.C. Immediately after law school, Greg was a law clerk for the late Honorable Irving L. Goldberg on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Greg is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia; the United States Supreme Court; the United States Courts of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Second Circuit, Third Circuit, Fifth Circuit, Sixth Circuit, Seventh Circuit, Eighth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and Eleventh Circuit; and numerous United States District Courts across the country.
